For its first temporary exhibition, 2024, the Belleau Museum invites you to discover the fabulous careers of 8 exceptional women who served in the Great War.

During the First World War, as men were mobilized to the front, women replaced them in many fields, such as industry and agriculture, taking on positions of responsibility.

Female involvement became particularly important in the health service. They became ambulance drivers, nurses, doctors and even surgeons! More rarely, some even served on the battlefield, sometimes disguised as men. Others played an important role in the intelligence services.

They were listened to; their specializations and knowledge were called upon, and their commitment was finally recognized by all.

These women scientists, doctors, artists and pilots proved to be daring, hardy, courageous and intrepid. They all have the will to commit, to resist and to show that they too can be equal to men. They want to change the place of women in society.

But there is still a long way to go...
