March 2020. After several weeks of denial about the seriousness of the Covid-19 epidemic in France, the authorities suddenly implement a strict policy of restricting human contact and travel.

On Tuesday March 17, 2020, in response to the exponential growth in the number of cases, compulsory containment came into force in France.

The measures adopted to deal with the health crisis are drastic: the obligation to remain at home; a maximum of one hour outing per day within a one-kilometer radius of one?s place of residence; a ban on frequenting walking areas; the closure of shops and social areas
not essential to the life of the nation", and gatherings are prohibited.
Initially announced as lasting a minimum of fifteen days, these restrictions will last a total of fifty-five days. During these eight weeks, I only left my home 6 times, and then only for supplies. Shocked by the sudden turn of events, oppressed by the
oppressed by confinement and overexposure to anxiety-provoking images and news, confinement was an ordeal for me.

Contamination curves, daily death counts, critical care admissions, patient triage, shortages of tests and masks, scientific inconsistencies, government denial and errors: the pandemic increased my anxiety to the point of staggering my ability to think, and damaged my mental health.
Confinement is lifted on May 11, 2020.

On May 13, I set off for Aisne, my mother?s family?s département of origin. A few minutes after arriving, I rush through the fields of wheat and sugar beet that I have criss-crossed since childhood. The feeling I get at this precise moment is similar to that of a first summer swim after long months of winter: a rebirth.

Finally liberated and exhilarated by this return to life, I would return to stroll for several hours every day for the next three weeks. Rocked by the wind, warmed by the sun?s rays, soothed by the vast expanses. Without covid, without restrictions, without masks, without physical distance, without people. Alone, outside.
