Monument de la 3ème Division

The 3rd Division was created in 1917 and took part in the fighting of the second battle of the Marne and contributed to the liberation of Château-Thierry on July 21, 1918. Thanks to the heroic actions of its soldiers on the battlefields, it earned its titles of glory, for itself and for the American Expeditionary Force and its name "the Rock of the Marne". Initially located on the Place des Etats Unis in front of the MAFA (Maison de l'Amitié Franco Américaine), the memorial of the 3rd American Division was demolished in 1940. The members of the American Association of the 3rd Infantry Division built this new monument which was inaugurated on October 8, 1961.
