Legend has it that Saint-Front, bishop of Périgueux, who came to evangelize the north of France, stopped for a while in a sandy place, Les Bruyères, near a sandstone pile. He is said to have slain a dragon, the terror of the region. To thank God, he celebrated a mass on this sandstone and a dove brought the wine ampoule necessary for the service. For centuries, newlyweds, accompanied by their relatives and friends, would kneel there and drink the wine that was poured.
