Le Bois de Belleau

Belleau Wood is of regional and national interest for its natural habitats. The dry moors with Callune are of European interest, as is the acidophilous oak forest with sandstone blocks, remarkable for the diversity and originality of the bryophyte groups (mosses and liverworts) present.

The Wood also has a historical heritage interest since it is part of the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial of the 1914-1918 war. Located on the front line of the Battle of the Marne in 1918, it is still possible to observe the remains (trenches, shell holes) of this battle.
Actions of restoration of the dry moors are undertaken by the technical team of the ABMC on the recommendations of the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels des Hauts de France.
