La Hottée du Diable

An intriguing name for a place that will surprise you with its impressive sandstone.
There are 3 legends, the most widespread being that in the Middle Ages, a contractor was commissioned by the lord of Bruyères to build the Val Chrétien abbey. The latter encountered problems in completing the work as quickly as he had promised. So he made a pact with the Devil, asking for his help in exchange for his soul.
Armed with a huge hood, the devil began the work, but in the morning a rooster crowed and frightened the devil, who fled. As he fled, the straps of his hood broke and the stones spilled onto the ground.
This legend is said to be the origin of the Hottée du Diable in Coincy.

But for those who don't want to believe it, it was the sea that covered these huge rocks long ago. When it retreated, it left behind sandstone and black sand.
